Mixing System

A leading packaged lettuce producer required a dynamic mixing system for a new processing line. The large capacity unit is fed by bin dumpers containing a variety of leaf products which are transferred to a series of inclined conveyors that feed the product onto a large mixing conveyor.

To meet the customer’s production requirements, Coastal Manufacturing designed and built a 26’ long by 102” wide custom mixing system. The unit consists of five sections, each section features a 4’ wide by 4’ long belt conveyor which transfers the product to a 4’ wide cleated inclined conveyor. Boston Gear Stainless Steel 700 Series Model 726 speed reducers were mounted to 3/4 HP stainless steel motors on all ten conveyor drives in the system.

The Stainless Steel 700 Series speed reducers were selected due to their superior corrosion resistance in this caustic washdown environment. Units feature durable Boston worm gearing, resistance to impact loading and a high reduction ratio in a compact enclosure envelope. A rounded housing design and covered hardware prevent foreign matter adherence and fluid accumulation on or under the units. All models incorporate the trusted Boston Gear 700 Series worm gearing and have been optimized to withstand the harshest conditions. The housings, motor flange, and carrier are crafted from 316SS to endure high-pressure washdowns while preventing microbial contamination and bacterial growth.
